Effective design isn't just about knowing the principles - it's about putting them into practice. This philosophy came to life when Joyedele Consulting's founder Judy Oyedele joined forces with Dr. Deb Orr, Department Chair of Management, Leadership & HR at Roosevelt University, to lead a session on Efficient Design for the Organization Development Network's Global Competency Framework Learning Series.
The session, which explored the critical competency of efficient design in organizational development, exemplified Joyedele Consulting's commitment to evidence-based methodologies and practical application. Participants experienced firsthand how thoughtful design can transform group experiences as they worked through a consistent case study that built in complexity throughout the session.
A highlight of the session was the exploration of the Meeting Canoe framework, a powerful tool for meeting design that emphasizes the importance of both entering and exiting group experiences with intention. "The visual of the canoe from the top, showing the correlation to time spent in each part of the meeting, was particularly impactful for participants," notes Judy Oyedele. "It helped them recognize how their current meetings could be more effectively designed."
The session's success was reflected in participant feedback, with one attendee noting: "This was the best session yet. It gave me really practical tools and ideas to implement quickly into my current practice." Another participant highlighted the "great balance of practice and theory" - a hallmark of Joyedele Consulting's approach to organizational development.
At Joyedele Consulting, we believe that effective design is both an art and a science. Through sessions like this, we demonstrate our commitment to helping organizations create more intentional, engaging, and productive group experiences.
